Shared-use vehicles in municipal services. Municipal fleet reduction saves € 461.176 and three tonnes of CO2.
To reduce costs without prejudice to the provision of means for workers to develop their tasks was the purpose of Oeiras Municipal Council with the new model for managing the municipal car fleet named “CarPooling”, shared-use vehicle management.
This new model for using vehicles to circulate in the service of the municipality has already reduced the municipal car fleet in 12,1%, which means that within four years there will be a € 461.176 saving – both in direct costs and taxes no longer supported by the municipality.
Since the creation of this car pool model the municipality has saved around three tonnes of CO2.
In a first stage, this working tool has been implemented in three different places – Serviços Técnicos, Atrium and Oficinas –, ending its implementation in a second stage, with the creation of a forth pool at the City Hall last January.
At present there are 25 vehicles available and distributed by the four places mentioned above. Its use by the municipality workers is made by a previous booking of the service.
This process is constantly being monitored according to several parameters and the number of vehicles may be adjusted not only to the present managing tool but also to the remaining municipal car fleet.
